Margaret Maloney, MD
Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University
Margaret was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama, after which she came to the Northeast for college and never left. Before medicine, her coursework and career were in the humanities. As an undergraduate at Harvard College, her focus was on language and theater. After that, she was a book editor for four years, publishing titles in history, memoir, biography, and comics. In 2011 she changed careers, inspired by physicians around her who made a substantial difference in their patients' lives. After her pre-med coursework at Brooklyn College, she attended Stony Brook University School of Medicine and completed a General Surgery internship at Mount Sinai Hospital. Margaret enjoys procedures and taking care of the whole person within family medicine's biopsychosocial model of health. Additionally, she has interests in women's health and palliative care. Outside the hospital, she fills her life with plants, art, quilt making, and two wonderful nephews who challenge her with the big questions of medicine like "How do ears work?"
