Saint Joseph's Announces New Psychiatry Residency Program

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center is excited to announce that it will begin training psychiatry residents in July 2023 through the newly accredited  New York Medical College at Saint Joseph's Psychiatry Residency Program. This program will build on Saint Joseph’s history of residency training in Family Medicine and Podiatry.  Saint Joseph's Medical Center, with its St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester division, is recognized as a major provider of quality psychiatric services in the region.

“We believe that our clinical excellence and enthusiastic faculty will result in an exceptional educational opportunity for our Residents. At both our campuses we pride ourselves on our clinical excellence, collaborative atmosphere, and the high quality, compassionate care provided by our faculty and staff,” said Saint Joseph’s Medical Center President and CEO Michael J. Spicer.

The new Psychiatry Residency Program will combine the best clinical learning opportunities of the two campuses with the goal of developing exceptional clinical psychiatrists that will be leaders of psychiatric care in our communities.  The Saint Joseph’s campus is a modern community hospital committed to caring for the medical and psychiatric needs of our vibrant and culturally diverse community. The St. Vincent’s campus is a behavioral health facility which specializes in providing a broad array of services to patients with complex needs.

The two campuses have a total of 332 inpatient beds, including specialized geriatric, adolescent, addiction rehabilitation, and intermediate behavioral health care units. The organization provides mental health treatment to over 5,000 patients in its outpatient mental health programs and over 3000 patients in its outpatient substance use disorder programs. The organization is known for providing recovery-oriented and community based care and is a leader in crisis services across the county. It also provides affordable and special needs housing in Westchester County and New York City.

Psychiatry residents will receive hands-on training in all behavioral health modalities from its dedicated faculty. Residents will be exposed to the broadest array of behavioral health services in Westchester County, including new and innovative services.  Program residents will also have the support of and be able to access the academic resources of New York Medical College.  Saint Joseph’s Medical Center looks forward to welcoming its inaugural class of psychiatry residents in July 2023.
